Monarch butterflies are endangered. Huge numbers of them are dying. Baby Monarchs can only eat milkweed plants. There are few milkweed plants now. Many farmers and ranchers in the United States kill milkweed plants. Cows get sick when they eat milkweed plants. Farmers remove milkweed plants to grow corn and soybeans. Mother Monarch butterflies can only lay egg son milkweed plants. Then, the mothersdie. Baby Monarch butterflies eat milkweed plants to survive.

In the spring, the Monarchs leave Mexico. They fly north to Canada. The trip is very long. The travel takes several months. The butterflies need to eat many milkweed plants. In the UnitedStates, the butterflies rest in Oklahoma. Many Native American tribes live in Oklahoma. Last week, they had a meeting. They promised to save Monarch butterflies. Native Americans will plant many thousands of milkweed plants on their land. The butterflies will have food to eat.
