Truffles are one of the most expensive and delicious foods in the world. They are a very special type of fungus, and they grow underground. Traditionally,people used pigs to hunt for truffles;however, dogs are now beginning to replace pigs in this job. Pigs naturally like to dig for truffles, but they also like to eat truffles. Dogs also like to hunt for truffles, but they usually do not want to eat them.
Ilsa is a beautiful Belgian Malinois and one of the most famous truffle-hunting dogs. After her first truffle-hunting class,she found a wild truffle within one day.She also discovered the first cultivated Black Perignon truffle in Oregon. “They said it couldn’t be done,” said her owner, Kris Jacobson. Ilsa is not alone.Around the world, many dog owners are training their pets to hunt for these delicious and valuable fungi.
