Filippo Tommaso Marinetti wrote a manifesto in 1909. The manifestobecame a guide for the Italian Futurismmovement. Many of Marinetti’s ideaswere controversial. However, he helpedto make a famous style of art. The ItalianFuturists were multimedia artists. Theystudied new machines. They tried toshow speed and movement in their art.Italian Futurism was popular until 1944,the year of Marinetti’s death. TheGuggenheim Museum in New York isworld-famous.

It has a show of Italian Futurist art. It isthe first show like this in the U.S.Museum workers chose special worksof art. They wanted to show the historyof Italian Futurism. They even made abook for the art show. It describes theart and also has Futurist writings.Marinetti’s “words in liberty” is a goodexample of this art style. These arecollages of words. The words look likethey are from newspapers andmagazines.
