Violence in the media is bad for children. Studies show it makes children more violent. The American Academy of Pediatrics says seeing violence on television is harmful. Seeing violence inmovies is harmful, too. Violent videogames are just as bad. Music with angry words is also part of the problem. The APP says they are a risk to the health of children. Research shows mediaviolence causes violent behavior inchildren.
It also causes nightmares and fear ofbeing harmed. Parents should protect children from all media violence. Young children cannot separate fantasy from reality. American children spend a lot of time using various media. This includes television, videos, movies, video games, print, radio, recorded music, computer and the Internet. Soon, virtual reality video games will be available. They willadd to the violence in the children's "media diet."
